As we step into 2026, I extend my deepest gratitude to our partners, allies and communities across Africa and beyond. The year 2025 tested our resolve amid compounding global crises right from climate shocks, environmental degradation, economic uncertainty and persistent inequalities. Yet, it also affirmed our collective power to act with courage, unity and purpose.
One of our most significant milestones was the advancement of the petition seeking an advisory opinion at the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. This effort reflects our unwavering commitment to climate and environmental justice grounded in human rights. By pursuing legal clarity and accountability, we strengthened the jurisprudential foundation for protecting communities most affected by climate harm and environmental loss, while amplifying African leadership in shaping global norms.
Equally inspiring was the unity demonstrated by civil society across the Global South during climate and environmental conferences and high-level engagements throughout the year. In spaces often defined by asymmetry, our collective voice resonated with clarity and conviction. We coordinated positions, shared evidence from the frontlines and advanced people-centered solutions reminding the world that justice, resilience and development are inseparable. This solidarity is not episodic; it is a movement we must deepen and sustain.
As we build on these wins, our gaze turns to the road ahead, toward COP31 in Antalya, Turkey and the pre-COP engagements leading up to it across the Global South and beyond. The coming year demands strategic alignment, robust advocacy and inclusive participation. We will prioritize meaningful community representation, rights-based climate action and financing that reaches those most in need. We will also continue to strengthen South–South collaboration, knowledge exchange and youth leadership as pillars of durable change.
The global landscape remains fluid and challenging. Yet, Resilient40 enters this year grounded in hope and guided by action. We will persist in advancing legal accountability, policy coherence and grassroots solutions that safeguard people and planet. Together with partners across regions and movements, we will translate unity into impact.
Let us move forward with determination, solidarity and a shared commitment to a just and resilient future, and World.
